Today we begin with Chapter 13 of the book Christ the Healer by F. F. Bosworth. The title of this chapter is “Why Some Fail to Receive Healing from Christ”.

In this Chapter, Brother Bosworth discusses reasons why people sometimes do not experience what they see revealed in God’s Word as his will for them, specifically concerning healing.

The first reason he gives is “Insufficient instruction — Ignorance concerning the Healing Power of the Gospel.”

I remember hearing a pastor speaking on this topic and they told of a person asking why they were not healed. The person had been sure that they were in faith. The pastor said, “Maybe you are in faith as far as you know.”

You see the problem can lie in the fact that we simply do not know enough concerning God’s Word, his will and how to walk in his will. I know personally what I know of faith now is different than what I knew of faith years ago and it’s the same regarding healing. But it should be that way. We should be growing. We should grow in faith, in the knowledge of God’s will. We can’t just take the position that we know it all. That’s not being humble. That’s not being teachable.

Let’s look at a few Scriptures from which we can receive some light on this topic.

Matthew 9:35 “And Jesus went throughout all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom and healing every disease and every affliction.”

What did Jesus do? He went about preaching, proclaiming the truth of God. He taught the truth of God. He healed, demonstrating the will of God. But people had to hear and be taught in order to believe and receive.

Let’s look at another.

Mark 6

1 He (Jesus) went away from there and came to his hometown, and his disciples followed him. 2 And on the Sabbath he began to teach in the synagogue, and many who heard him were astonished, saying, “Where did this man get these things? What is the wisdom given to him? How are such mighty works done by his hands? 3 Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary and brother of James and Joses and Judas and Simon? And are not his sisters here with us?” And they took offense at him. 4 And Jesus said to them, “A prophet is not without honor, except in his hometown and among his relatives and in his own household.” 5 And he could do no mighty work there, except that he laid his hands on a few sick people and healed them. 6 And he marveled because of their unbelief.

And he went about among the villages teaching.

Unbelief hindered the work of Jesus so what did he do, he focused on teaching.

We are to learn and be life long learners. We will never exhaust the treasure of wisdom and knowledge of his Word, plus his Word is spirit and life and even health to our bodies.

If you are not seeing the results of God’s promises, stay humble, keep growing, keep being taught by the Word of God. Amen.

Now what you don’t want to do is to choose to begin to base your belief on your present circumstances instead of his Word. Do not take the stance that God’s will is not healing simply because you have yet to experience it. If you choose to do that, then you have chosen to have a faith based on your reasoning of your circumstances which is not true faith at all.

True faith comes by the hearing and hearing by the Word of God.

Blessings in Christ,

Tim Dumas
